This year's Autumn Ball will again be held at the South Pasadena Woman's Club, 1424 Fremont Ave. at Rollin St., south of the Fair Oaks exit from State Freeway 110. We may park cars on the street or at nearby South Pasadena High School. We shall have a beginners' dance lesson at 10 a.m., then an intermediates' lesson at 2, by our Choreographer John Hertz; between those, box lunches (a separate subscription); at half past 4, a full tea; then at half past 7, dancing till midnight. It is a well-provided day, and has long been a pleasant and applauded affair. Period costume of about the year 1800 is welcome but not required. Our tea-time guest will be Eric Kinsley, Southern California expert on Haydn, in this 200th anniversary year of the death of that miraculous composer. Dr. Kinsley is a keyboardist and will explore Haydn with us accordingly. Some will remember how in Buena Park a few years ago he showed us, through Haydn’s writing, that Haydn apparently changed his mind from the harpsichord to the fortepiano around the 21st sonata (1804). Eric Kinsley received his doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music. Not content to limit himself, he also has collaborated with John Cage and Hans-Werner Henze This year the deligtful box lunches, for a separate subscription of $20, will come from Noir restaurant, 40 N. Mentor Ave., Pasadena 91106. The choices are:
